He came back today and actually came over to our side of the pond. It is definitely a Blue Heron. I took about 50 pictures of him. I kept waiting for him to fly away so I could get a shot of his wing span, but he never did... until after I put the camera away. I did get a couple of him catching his dinner though...

When I was a kid we lived by a river in Michigan and had blue herons all over the place. I must have been 5 years old when I ran into the house to tell my parents that I saw a pterodactyl flying over our back yard.
BTW, I'm so glad to be able to comment on your blog again!!! You guys wanna get together soon?
Awesome! He's neat looking. Glad you got a good look at him this time.
This is one of my favorite birds! They were all over at my grandparents farm pond in Michigan. I still think of the pond when I see one.
Wow, you really have Mutual of Minnesota in your backyard,Cool! I am planning on putting up a humming bird feeder soon, so I shall see one of MN smallest birds. We loved having dinner with you the other night. Thanks for hanging out with us and answering our many questions. Cool blog site.Kaydi
Just because...is it a "greater blue heron" or a "lesser blue heron"? there is a difference.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe it is a Great Blue Heron. What do you think, Larry?
