Embracing our new culture
After the two morning services at Five Oaks, David and I ran back "home" to change and we ventured out to experience a day of twin cities fun. We drove to the Mall of America, where we parked and rode the Light-Rail into downtown Minneapolis. We got off at the Metrodome, where we had great tickets to the Twins-Indians game that afternoon (Thanks, Chuck and Terri!) Though neither of us are huge baseball fans (or sports fans at all, for that matter...), we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed cheering on our new home-team. The Twins ended up beating the Indians 5-2. It was a good game to start being Twins fans:-)
After the game, we took the Light-Rail back to the Mall of America, where we met up with Dan and Angie. We spent a little while walking around the mall-- it was my first time there-- and then we left for a delicious Mexican dinner at Chevy's across the street. After that we headed over to Ikea for a couple of hours. Can I just say that I am so glad to FINALLY be living close to an Ikea? About 6 months ago I was thrilled to learn that an Ikea was coming to Detroit, only to be devastated that we would be moving as soon as it opened. Fortunately we're moving to another Ikea location! Yeah! Anyway, we had a fun evening with Dan and Angie and are just so thrilled to have some "old" friends close by that we can do things with.
Dan and David made some new friends at the Department 56 store...

Look at you in your Twins hats. Before you know it you'll have your tv tuned to ESPN all day long. =o)
That would be the day!
It's been fun reading your blog and catching up a little on your life! Melissa you seem like such a great person! Too bad we couldn't have met up with you two before you relocated!! =)
Looks like you had a fun time at the baseball game...too bad you weren't cheering the Cleveland Indians on, o-well, we'll love ya no matter what!
Dept. 56 has these things called "Krinkles" and they are these stupid kitchy little things that I frikkin love. I was at a 56 store in Boston during the fall and they had a HUGE display of their Christmas line. I love them. And I will actually come to the twin cities this fall now that I know that store exists to see the Krinkles (like they're some museum exhibit or something). They're SO FUN. And so weird and whimsical. I can't believe I love these things.
The Twin Cities are cool. My first time in Minneapolis I was like, "this place is like Rochester, NY... but in the midwest. I could live here" - AND they are the home of Prairie Home Companion... Any of you in for going to see a live broadcast sometime this fall?
What a game to go to-you were cheering for the wrong team though...the Indians are MUCH better than the Twins :)
Glad that you are starting to enjoy the Twin Cities. There is SO much to do there. They have TONS of great music stuff all the time all over the city.
Have you bought anything at IKEA yet?
We actually just bought two truck loads of furniture at Ikea for the church. We're creating a "greenroom" backstage for all of our musicians. We'll post pictures when it's all done. I will say though, that my thumb hurts from using the allen wrench so much!
You guys look great - love the pic at the game with the hats!
